VEED also delivered a clean 1080p clip (one per 50-credit refill). Both beat their reputations. Meanwhile Pixlr and Picsart could not make a single free video — their credits do not cover one generation — and Runway and Grok are not meaningfully free at all. We Tested It: Real Free Clips
Every “free AI video generator” roundup lists the same tools; almost none actually generate a video on the free tier and show you the file. We did. Same prompt — a golden retriever puppy running through a sunlit meadow — run on each free tier in our own browser on 11 July 2026. Here are the two that produced a clean, watermark-free clip for free. Play them.

Both clips are the actual files we downloaded from each free tier, frame-checked for watermarks. Notably, both platforms are commonly labelled “watermark traps” in other roundups — neither watermarked our free export. The catch is quantity, not watermarks: Firefly’s allowance renews daily; VEED’s 50 free credits buy exactly one mid-tier clip (its premium models, Google Veo 2 at 250 credits and Luma Ray at 120, are priced out of the free tier entirely).
The Ones That Gave Us Zero Free Video
Three platforms that market a “free AI video generator” could not produce a single clip on our free account — not because of a watermark, but because a free balance does not cover even one generation. This is the trap the word “free” hides, and it only shows up when you actually try.
- Pixlr: its video generator routes to Seedance 2.0 Fast at 130 credits per clip, but a free account holds 10 credits. Zero free videos; clicking Generate opens a paywall.
- Picsart: the AI video generator (a multi-model router for Veo 3.1, Kling, Seedance and Sora) shows “Subscribe to generate” on the free tier with a zero credit balance.
- CapCut: now integrating ByteDance’s Seedance 2.5, but video generation is credit-gated and our free balance was spent — no free clip at zero credits, and free video exports carry the CapCut watermark once you do have credits.
Krea (Hailuo 2.3) also ran out of free daily credits during testing — its free tier is a small daily allowance that resets rather than a per-day practice budget. Leonardo offers 150 free daily tokens (Hailuo 2.3) and is a documented clean-tier option we are capturing a clip from next.
